Woods Foodservice Porsche Boxster Cup at Silverstone Circuit
On Saturday, the 29th of July, we hit the road to the iconic Silverstone circuit, with a number of our clients and suppliers for an adrenaline-fueled race day. As the headline sponsors of the Porsche Motorsport Boxster Cup 2023, we were delighted to be joined by chefs in the industry to celebrate our collaboration with Porsche, a brand that shares our values of speed, accuracy, and sophistication.
What is the Boxster Cup?
The Woods Foodservice Porsche Club Boxster Cup celebrates the anniversary of the restoracing series for the Porsche 986 Boxster. To celebrate its history, Porsche centres were challenged to restore 986 Porsche models and have them all racing with the same specification for 7 races and 3 rounds throughout the UK in 2023.
When we arrived at Silverstone, we were delighted to welcome our guests to our exclusive VIP hospitality area, to enjoy food and refreshments throughout the day. Our guests were free to explore the circuit, and even had access to the Grandstand for stunning views of the tracks. With an impressive, combined grid for all classes, over 50 Porsches competed on the GP circuit, including Open Cup, Class 1, Class 2, and Boxster Cup. And despite mixed weather conditions, the abundant bursts of sunshine quickly dried the track, allowing the races to proceed smoothly.
Back on track with Wayne Gregory
Our Operations Manager, Wayne Gregory took part in the Boxster Cup, racing our own Woods Foodservice Porsche race car. He managed to tackle the course of the track in both races 1 and 2, and on his 6th lap, he came in with 2:42.984 (best lap time) which is a great success after coming back from a break.
As for the overall championship, Jonny Lovell took the lead with Mike Thompson coming in second place. It was a tight squeeze between Perry Darling coming in 3rd and Sarah Thompson taking 4th only moments behind in race 1.
The overall event was a fantastic turnout, and despite the challenges, we eagerly look forward to Darren Labbett and Wayne Gregory’s return for the next race, where we're sure they'll come back stronger than ever!
We would like to give a huge congratulations to Jonny Lovell and Mike Thompson for taking first place on the podium in each race of the Woods Foodservice Boxster Cup.
