At Woods Foodservice, our sustainable fleet initiatives reflect our dedication to minimising environmental impact and promoting greener practices across all aspects of our operations.
We meticulously plan our delivery routes using the latest route planning technology, ensuring that food delivery miles are kept to an absolute minimum. This optimisation not only enhances efficiency but also significantly reduces our carbon footprint.

Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our entire fleet, which is equipped with tri-zone temperature control, ensuring the highest quality and freshness of our produce during transit. Currently, all our delivery vans meet Euro 6 emissions standards, significantly reducing harmful emissions. Additionally, all company cars are fully electric, aligning with London’s stringent low-emission policies and exempting them from road tax and congestion charges. This shift to electric vehicles not only cuts down air pollution but also underscores our dedication to sustainable practices.
In the coming months, we are expecting the arrival of 12 new electric vehicles. These state-of-the-art vans will feature bodies made from recycled materials and will be equipped with solar panels on the roof, reducing the energy required for electric charging. Each vehicle will offer multi-temperature storage, including chilled, ambient, and frozen compartments, enhancing our delivery capabilities while minimising our environmental impact.
By the end of FY 2025, we plan to replace our entire Euro 6 fleet with electric vehicles, and seven lorries will be added to the fleet after Christmas.
Our fleet is designed with advanced monitoring systems, including AdBlue technology, which is checked daily to ensure optimal performance. We utilize tracking devices to monitor fuel consumption, speed, and internal temperatures, providing critical data that helps us improve efficiency and reduce waste. Our future plans include producing biofuel by recycling used vegetable oil collected from our customers.
In addition, we are implementing driver performance software that tracks harsh braking and other driving behaviors. This not only contributes to safer driving but also enhances fuel efficiency and reduces accidents.

We operate biodiesel delivery vans that run on renewable energy sourced from recycled cooking oil. This conversion process reduces our dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels and minimizes greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. To support this initiative, we have installed a biodiesel container at our depot, reducing travel miles for refuelling and promoting more sustainable fuel practices.
Electric Forklifts: Our entire forklift fleet is electric, ensuring our warehouse operations are as environmentally friendly as possible.
We encourage our employees to adopt greener commuting options through initiatives like the Ride to Work Scheme and the Octopus Electric Vehicle Scheme. These programs are designed to reduce individual carbon emissions, contributing to our overall sustainability goals.
