We can enjoy apples all year round, but nothing tastes better than British Apples in autumn. Did you know there are more than 2000 varieties of apples in the UK? Heritage, Pink Lady, Cox to name a few! Not only do they look and taste delicious, but they are also extremely versatile. Enjoy them chopped raw in salads to provide that delightful crunch or bake them to create a caramel sweetness for your dessert.

Just like apples, pears have a huge variety of different types, but their most common are named Conference, Comice, Red William and Rocha. They all have different flavours and textures, which improve after they are picked. We like to buy slightly under ripe pears, so they arrive to you with its full flavour. One of our favourite recipes is griddled pears with goats’ cheese and a hazelnut dressing.

Figs are grown around the globe, but the popular varieties are mainly grown in the Mediterranean. Figs have a delicate, honey-like flavour and one way you can enjoy them is in a sweet chutney or jam paired with blue cheese – the perfect sharing cheese board this autumn.

Squashes are harvested just at the point of the year when evenings begin to get chilly and cooking turns to warming, wholesome dishes. They are all wonderfully bright in colour, with varied shapes and sizes. Our most popular squashes include Delicata, Spaghetti, Pottimoron (Onion Squash) and Harlequin. Create hearty dishes by roasting them to comfort guests during the cooler Autumn season.

Pumpkins are Autumns famous squash, and commonly carved during Halloween. However, they also have a deliciously sweet flesh that when roasted or baked, can be used to make a wholesome soup, or of course an American favourite, pumpkin pie! Let’s not forget, it is also packed full of fibre, vitamins, and minerals.
